The Tournament of Champions began today in its new home in Sofia, Bulgaria. The championships follows a round robin format and features the 6 highest ranked women to have won an International tour title and 2 wild cards. The home crowd had plenty to cheer about too, as one wild card, Tsvetana Pironkova pulled through.

11/1 Wozniacki, champion in Seoul, avoided all the drama of their Beijing encounter as she trounced Kuala Lumpur and Guangzhou champion, Hsieh 62 62.
16/4 Vinci, champion in Dallas, played flawlessly to beat Pattaya champion, Hantuchova 61 62.
Wild card Pironkova made the most of playing in front of her home crowd to overcome a nervous start and Auckland champion Zheng 26 64 76(4).
